On Reflys, Instagram Conversation Starters (also called icebreakers) help new users begin a conversation with your business without feeling confused or shy.
These starters show up before the first message is sent. The questions can be like “What are your opening hours?” or “Can I book a call?” – making it simple for users to click and get a quick answer.
Conversation Starters are perfect for:

- Starting sales or support conversations easily

How to Set Up Instagram Conversation Starters
Setting them up in Reflys is quick and easy.
Step 1: Go to Automation in the Reflys Dashboard
Click on:
Automation → Basic → Instagram → Conversation Starters
Step 2: Add a Starter
Click + Add Question
Now enter:
- A title (this is what users will see, like: “How can we help you?”)
- Then choose which automation should be triggered when they tap that question
You can create a new automation right there. A new flow builder will appear in which you can add multiple steps and attach to nodes.
Step 3: Preview & Publish
Once you’ve added your starters, check the preview on the right side.
Happy with how it looks?
- Click Set Live to save live changes
Done! Your Conversation Starters are
now live.
What Users See
When someone opens your Instagram DMs for the first time, they’ll see your conversation starters as clickable prompts—right before they type anything. It’s a great way to remove hesitation and make them feel guided. Here’s how conversation starters will appear for your followers:
Known Limitations
There are a few things to note:
- Conversation starters only show up for new users who haven’t messaged your account yet
- If someone already has an ongoing DM conversation with your page, they won’t see the starters
- If you’re using Instagram ref URLs, conversation starters must be set up for them to work for new users (Once a conversation is active, ref URLs work as expected)
